My name is Abigail Allen and I am a Colorado State Student currently studying Art Education. I originally came to CSU to study graphic design, but I quickly changed my major once I realized that I really love all forms of art. I also enjoy working with children, so completing my degree in Art Education was a perfect fit.
Concentration
My concentration is split between drawing and sculpture. In my Intermediate II Drawing class, I was able to find my "voice" and learned that I personally like to work small and detailed. My art pieces are quiet and gentle. I like simplicity and negative space, I think both are very powerful. My drawing class demonstrated to me how important writing down and drawing my ideas were, and I started using a sketch-book regularly. I do like to work two-dimensionally, but I like pushing myself to think differently and work three-dimensionally.
High School
I graduated from Chaparral High School in spring 2010. At Chaparral I played softball all four years and ran track for one year. I was an active member of the National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society. I also participated in Unified Basketball and the Link Crew program. I was very fortunate to have a High School that pushed me to be my very best.
Family
None of my grandparents attended college, and my parents attended but never graduated, making me a first generation college student set to graduate in 4 years. My parents have always supported me and understand my love for art and education. I have a younger brother who recently started at Metropolitan State University of Denver; he plans to be a police officer someday.
Extras
In the past years, I have played co-ed softball with my parents and I like to attend Rockies games regularly. In my spare time I like to read Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit or draw in my sketchbook. I have a boyfriend of four years who I often watch football games with. He has taught me to be patient and understanding. I also have a twenty pound cat named Merlin who has actually inspired some of my art.
