The School Community
Demographics: Poudre High School has approximately 1,900 students with a 1,800 student capacity. It is located in Fort Collins, Colorado and was built in 1963.
Culture/Climate: The students and staff at Poudre High School are motivated to become successful. Students have an abundance of resources, whether they be the media center, faculty or one another. The rooms are conducive to student learning and teachers and staff are always working to help keep students motivated. "The classroom environment and curriculum are enhanced through rigor, relevancy, and relationships."
School Programs: PDS is home to the International Baccalaureate Program, the Newcomer Academy, the PaCE program, and the Communication Academy, as well as numerous school-sponsored and student-initiated clubs and extra-curricular activities. Poudre High School
offers more than 250 courses There are expanded Music and Visual Arts departments, additional varsity locker rooms, an enhanced TV productions studio. Students may chose to participate in Ambassadors, cheerleading, drama, theatre, debate/forensics, instrumental music, vocal music, Kaleidoscope magazine, National Honor Society, newspaper staff, Poudre Peer Connections, Poudre Business Leaders, Poudre Pals, Renaissance, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), student council, yearbook, Robotics, Science Olympiad, Science Bowl, athletics, and numerous other student led organizations.
Parent Involvement: Every month, the school sends out a Parent Newsletter that allows Parents to catch up with what is happening at the school. Parents are encouraged to become involved and volunteer at the school. The communication between Parents and Poudre High School is very important to the students and staff. Parents help by providing support for sports teams, music, drama, Parents of Poudre Students, Moms-in-Touch, the alumni and parent board with the PSD Foundation, parent/teacher conferences, IB parent advisory board and after prom committee.
